NT Live @ Third Rail: Hamlet Wins Awards, Sells Out in London
This just in from The Guardian of London: "Rory Kinnear's standing as one of the most talented theatre actors of his generation was secured tonight when he was given a prestigious best actor award.... His memorable Hamlet at the National Theatre ... won him the prize at this year's London Evening Standard theatre awards."
That would be the production of Hamlet that's now sold out in London. Lucky for you, you'll be able to see it here on December 18 when it is screened as the next offering from National Theatre Live.

"Good Show, Sweet Prince"
The Evening Standard of London reports, "When Rory Kinnear was named Best Actor at the Evening Standard Awards last night, the Savoy ballroom erupted with wild applause. Although he'd been nominated alongside David Suchet and Roger Allam, the 32-year-old Londoner was clearly the popular choice of the assembled theatrical great and good. In the short but brilliant arc of his career so far, the son of the late Roy Kinnear has won not only the respect but the affection of audiences, critics and his peers."
We recommend reading the entire Evening Standard article, an informative profile (with accompanying video) of an actor probably still unfamiliar to most Americans.
We also recommend that you not wait to get tickets to National Theatre Live's captured-live presentations of Hamlet. The screenings, December 18 at 2pm and 7pm, will be at the World Trade Center Theater. You can purchase tickets online or call the box office at 503-235-1101.
Theatre Tickets Make Great Gifts!
Ben Brantley of the New York Times recommends theatre tickets as a way to send wonderfully crafted messages to those on your holiday gift list. National Theatre Live tickets, at just $20 each, make sending that message easy.
For that friend whose family "drives them crazy" at the holidays, a viewing of Hamlet might be just the thing to give them a fresh perspective. For the friend who's likely to need a mid-winter energy boost, a screening of the hit musical FELA! will have them dancing in our aisles.
There will be four screenings of FELA! in late January/early February. If your giftee has a conflict on the date you choose, we'll gladly change dates for them. Tickets to FELA! are going to be a hot commodity as the screenings approach. Give them as a gift, they're sure to please.
